Ypsilante' is a Gallica rose with large dark lilac-pink flowers that fade to a lighter pink and finally to a grey violet. They are very double quartered flowers, with a strong scent. The loose upright shrub has light green leaves and few prickles.

Extended description

The Ypsilante rose, named after the Greek patriot and general Prince Alexandros Ypsilantis, is a remarkable Gallica variety developed by Jean-Pierre Vibert in 1821. The flowers transform from lilac pink to light pink with lighter edges. This rose is notable for its strong scent and large, filled, flat, quartered flower shape with the petals arranged around a small green eye. The plant has a medium-sized, upright growth habit, with light green leaves, and reaches a height of about 100 to 150 cm and a width of up to 90 cm. The branches are almost thornless. This variety is known for its excellent disease resistance. Pruning is recommended after flowering to remove old branches and dead or diseased wood, which contributes to the health and vitality of the plant. The rose is appreciated by lovers of old roses.
